Two cups, a closed notebook and a pen on a kitchen table beside a lamp late in the evening

Our Little Thing gives you one question a day to answer in private and reveal together, with a partner, a best friend or a family member, plus games, date ideas and love notes whenever you want more. Lasting is a guided programme of sessions for couples.

If you want something to open on an ordinary night, with no course to follow, choose Our Little Thing. If you want a structured programme on a particular topic, Lasting is built for that. Details about Lasting come from its own pages, read in October 2026, and our prices are as of October 2026.

Course or companion: which one are you tonight?

Think of the last quiet evening you had. The children are asleep, or the house is finally calm, and you have maybe forty minutes. One of you says, “Should we actually sit down and work on something?” The other says, “Could we just play a game and plan Saturday?”

Our view, not a measurement.

Both are fair, and most couples say each on different nights. Our Little Thing is the second one, a companion. Lasting is the first, a course. Here is the side-by-side.

What is Our Little Thing built for?

It is built for the ordinary night. You answer one question, which takes a minute or two, and then you decide whether to do more. Answers stay hidden until you have both answered, then you reveal together. Because you cannot peek, you are more likely to answer in your own words.

When you set up, you pick a lane: romantic, friendship or family. So the same app can sit alongside a partner, a best friend and your mum, each in a private space of their own. It starts on one phone, where you answer, hand it over and reveal together, and pairing two phones is optional.

Our Little Thing is a gentle tool for connection, not counselling, and it is not a substitute for talking to a qualified person when you need that. If you are not sure what to ask first, our guide to questions to ask your partner is a good place to begin.

Some evenings you have forty quiet minutes. Others you have ten.

What else is in it when you have more than ten minutes?

Quite a lot. There are 879 questions in 32 packs, and with Premium you can write up to 200 of your own or speak your answers instead of typing. There are more than 40 games, each with 20 or more rounds, including This or That, Same Page and Truth Reveal, and more than 100 date ideas you can filter by at home, outside, food, creative, active, low cost and apart.

Any date idea can become a plan with a mood, time, budget, place, backup plan and checklist. Alongside that sit love notes, special dates with countdowns, private photo memories, an Our Story timeline and a weekly recap.

On a night you do have time, you might answer the question, play a round of Same Page, then pick a date idea for the weekend. For a cheap one, see our guide to cheap date night ideas at home.

Quick quiz: which one fits your next evening?

This is for fun, so go with your gut. Pick A or B for each.

1. You have forty minutes and no plans

  • A. We would like to do something together and see where it goes.
  • B. We would like to sit down and work through something properly.

2. What are you hoping to get from the night?

  • A. A laugh, a surprise, and something new to know about each other.
  • B. A clearer way to talk about a topic we keep returning to.

3. How do you feel about following a plan?

  • A. Not tonight. We would rather pick as we go.
  • B. Love it. Tell us the next step.

4. Who is the app for?

  • A. Us, and maybe a best friend or my sister too.
  • B. Just the two of us.

5. How do you feel at 9pm on a weekday?

  • A. Tired, but happy to answer one question.
  • B. Focused enough for a guided session.

Mostly A: Our Little Thing is probably your speed. Answer the question tonight, and add a game or a date idea whenever you feel like it. Mostly B: Lasting looks like a good fit, because a programme of sessions suits couples who want a structured way into a topic. A bit of both: that is very common, and it is fine to use each for what it does well.

Where is Lasting stronger?

In structure. Lasting’s listing says each session creates the space to reflect, unpack your thoughts and discuss them with your partner. Premium opens hundreds of sessions on topics such as communication, conflict, repair, money and trust, for two users, and a free Foundations series lets you try the style first.

If you and your partner have one particular thing to work through and want someone to have thought of the questions for you, a programme like that can be a relief. Its listing says it is not medical, psychological or mental health advice, and the same goes for ours. Neither replaces a qualified person.

Our Little Thing and Lasting: your questions

Is Our Little Thing free?

Yes, it is free to use. Premium is $6.99 a month or $39.99 a year, as of October 2026, and one subscription covers both of you. Lasting has a free Foundations series and a free trial, then a subscription, so check the App Store for its current price.

Is there a lighter alternative to Lasting?

Our Little Thing is a different shape rather than a lighter one: a daily question, games and date ideas, with no course to follow, and it works with a partner, a best friend or family.

Can friends or family use these apps?

Our Little Thing has a friendship lane and a family lane, each with its own questions and games. Lasting is aimed at couples, and its website also mentions families.

Do we both need to pay?

In Our Little Thing, one Premium subscription covers both of you.

Is either of them therapy?

No. Our Little Thing is a gentle tool for connection, not counselling. Lasting’s App Store subtitle reads “Guided Relationship Counseling”, and its listing says the content is not medical, psychological or mental health advice. Read its pages and decide what fits you.

Can I use Lasting on my own?

Lasting’s Premium covers two users, and its sessions are built for you to discuss with your partner. Its listing says the free part includes conversation starters and single sessions, so check inside the app for how they work. Our Little Thing works on one phone with someone beside you.
